Deputies Save Life of Suspect Who Fled from Them
On Thursday, November 7th, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop that resulted in a brief chase to arrest a fleeing suspect. The driver of the vehicle was found to have a handgun on him and was detained by an on-scene deputy. However, in the process, the handcuffed suspect managed to run off towards a field and launched his body over the fence, landing onto his face before running of into the darkness.
Three deputies began to track the suspect with a K-9, with Camp Verde Marshal’s Office and DPS responding to set up a perimeter for containment. Cottonwood Police Department officers were nearby and responded with a drone to assist in searching the area and located the driver approximately 300 yards south of the location of the stop. The suspect was lying face first unresponsive and was given a total of 8 doses of Narcan, 6 by law enforcement and two by Fire/Ems when they arrived on scene.
He was transported to the hospital and was medically cleared and booked into jail for outstanding warrants, drug possession, drug paraphernalia, prohibited possessor, and unlawful flight.
Vehicle Rollover Claims Life of 42-Year-old Man
On Friday evening, November 8th, just before 8 pm, YCSO was dispatched to a reported single-vehicle rollover accident on E Montezuma Well Road in Rimrock. Witnesses stated they heard the vehicle travel at a high rate of speed and came out of their camp to find a vehicle upside down and a single adult male occupant partiality ejected and pinned.
Witnesses also stated that the vehicle rolled 3 times before coming to rest just off the roadway. The driver, 42-year-old Fabion Renfro of Prescott, appeared not to be wearing a seatbelt during the collision, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At this time, it appears that the vehicle was traveling too fast for the road conditions, which is an unpaved Forest Service road.
YCSO Volunteers Answer Call in Force to Locate Missing Woman
On Sunday afternoon, YCSO Deputies and Search and Rescue (SAR) crews responded a call from Sedona Police Department for assistance locating a missing 69-year-old female with dementia.
27 SAR volunteers from Verde Search and Rescue and Yavapai County Search and Rescue, along with DPS Air Rescue responded to the initial response on Sunday Nov 10, 2024 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Drone teams, 4×4 teams, Search Dogs and Back Country and Verde SAR ground teams worked until approximately 01:30 a.m. on Nov 11, 2024. Volunteers worked 180 man-hours on the first night traveling 969 miles.
On day two of the search, 24 volunteers from Verde and YCSO SAR answered the call to assist. Mountain Bike, 4×4, Mounted and Ground teams worked 242 man-hours traveling 1,238 miles.
At approximately 5:30 pm on Monday, two concerned citizens located the woman in the area of the Doe Mountain trailhead while in the area watching the sunset. Upon contact they realized she appeared to be confused and remembered they had seen a post that someone was missing in the area. The good Samaritans called 911 and the woman was returned home safety.
Search and Rescue teams are made up of community members who volunteer their time and expertise to assist law enforcement agencies with search missions, providing their own resources to the cause. YCSO thanks all volunteers and law enforcement personnel for their dedication.
