Signs of fall are in the air, and the new Osher Lifelong Learning Center (OLLI) catalog is packed full of classes and workshops, old and new, to stimulate seasoned adults with curious minds and hearts. Join people of like mind to explore topics of interest together. Registration has begun for the Fall classes starting Oct. 28 and ending Dec. 13. Also, consider teaching a class or workshop for OLLI. Proposals for Winter Term are now being accepted. Course proposal system is open Oct. 9-30. Go online to submit a course proposal at www.yc.edu/ollisvproposals. Winter Term dates are Jan. 27 to Mar. 14.
General topics encompass active mind and body; arts and crafts; arts (visual and performing); computers and technology; finance, economics, and law; health and nutrition; history and current affairs; local interest; nature and the outdoors; philosophy, religion, and the unexplained; science and math; self-enrichment and lifestyle; Social Security and Medicare; and writing, literature, and languages.
There are over a dozen stimulating new classes, and some include outings. Enjoy a geological field trip to Red Mountain, and/or try moderate to strenuous hiking. Try a quilting class in which you will learn to quilt without a sewing machine. Take a do-it-yourself small home repairs class or class on planning and executing your own travel.
OLLI offers classes at three local venues, as well as Prescott. Locally, classes can be found at the Sedona Center (4215 Arts Village Drive, Sedona); the Verde Valley Campus (601 Black Hills Drive, Clarkdale); and the Sedona Public Library in the Village of Oak Creek (25 West Saddlehorn Road, VOC).
OLLI offers academic, not-for-credit programs with no tests or homework, designed for adults 50 years old or older. OLLI is a member-led program, organized by a volunteer council. In addition to being able to attend learning programs and social activities, OLLI members may enhance their participation by volunteering for leadership positions, serving as committee members, assisting with administrative services, teaching and much more.
