Prescott Chamber of Commerce Foundation Announces Opening of Minor Home Repair Applications

The Prescott Chamber of Commerce Foundation is excited to announce the launch of applications for the Minor Home Repair Program (MHRP), designed to improve affordable, safe, and decent housing for residents of Prescott. This initiative, made possible through federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), aims to support income-eligible homeowners with essential repairs and enhancements.

Administered by the Prescott Chamber of Commerce Foundation in collaboration with the City’s Community Development Department, the MHRP provides grants of up to $5,000 per eligible household. These funds can address a range of repairs including accessibility improvements, life safety enhancements, and code violation corrections.

Key Program Eligibility Criteria:

  • Residency Requirement: Applicants must be residents of the City of Prescott and have owned their home for at least 12 months prior to applying for assistance.
  • Income Eligibility: Eligibility is based on household income, which must be at or below the low-moderate income (LMI) thresholds established by HUD’s Current Income Guidelines.
  • Types of Eligible Repairs: The program covers a variety of essential repairs, including electrical hazards, accessibility improvements (e.g., grab bars, ramps), and heating and plumbing repairs, and fire safety enhancements (e.g., smoke detectors).
  • Ineligible Repairs: Certain repairs, such as new roofs, aesthetic enhancements (except as part of specific abatement projects), and internal remodels, are not covered under this program.

To qualify, residents must provide documentation of their income, household size, and ownership status.

Approved applicants must also commit to residing in the property for a minimum of five years following the completion of repairs.

“The Minor Home Repair Program is instrumental in ensuring that homeowners have the resources necessary to maintain safe and livable residences,” stated Michael McInnes, CDBG Coordinator. “We urge eligible residents to take advantage of this opportunity to address essential repairs within their homes.”

Interested homeowners are urged to apply promptly, as funding is limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications and additional program details can be obtained by contacting the Prescott Chamber of Commerce website at prescott.org.
