Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) Awarded Highway Safety Grant for Car Seat Safety Program

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) Highway Safety Grant. This grant will significantly increase CAFMA’s efforts in enhancing community safety through its child seat safety inspections and car seat assistance program.

Recognizing CAFMA’s dedication to ensuring the safety of community members on Arizona roads, GOHS awarded a $6,868.00 grant to support materials, supplies, and personnel services. These resources will be instrumental in advancing CAFMA’s mission of educating parents and caregivers on the proper installation and use of child car seats.

“We are honored to receive this grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety,” said

Darrell Tirpak, Fire Marshal at CAFMA. “Safety is at the core of everything we do, and this funding will help us expand our existing initiatives aimed at protecting the lives of our community members, especially the most vulnerable, our children.”

CAFMA boasts a team of five certified car seat technicians, with plans to expand in the future. These technicians will provide personalized guidance to parents and caregivers, ensuring that they understand how to properly install and use car seats for their children.

In addition to educational efforts, CAFMA will use the grant to offer a limited number of car seats to families in need. By increasing accessibility to these critical safety devices, CAFMA aims to reduce the number of preventable injuries and fatalities resulting from improper car seat usage.

Scott Freitag, CAFMA Fire Chief, emphasized, “This grant not only strengthens our ability to serve our community but also reinforces the importance of collaboration in promoting road safety. CAFMA is deeply grateful for the support of the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety as we strive to protect the lives of our residents.”

CAFMA remains committed to fostering a safer environment for all members of the community, and this grant will further amplify its impact in promoting highway safety.
