The Bradshaw Mountain Bears were able to put out the fire in the bats of the Prescott Badgers with a 9-3 extra inning contest.
Prescott erupted for 28 runs just two days earlier, but could not find anything close to that at the plate in the regular season finale.
Prescott ends in second place in the Grand Canyon Region with a (9-3) mark. They are sitting at #9 in the latest AIA Division 4 rankings, but that may change as all the schools wrap up their regular seasons on Monday and Tuesday.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the second, but the Badgers took a 3-2 lead in the third. Bradshaw Mountain was able to scratch out a run in the fifth to tie the game at three off of Prescott starter Adrian Sanderford. The game remained tied till the Bears broke the game wide open with a six run inning. The Badgers were unable to duplicate a feat they accomplished earlier in the season with a seven run comeback win over Mingus.
Ivan Schuster had three hits. Jack Burton and Luke Tobin each had RBI doubles. Sanderford had a good outing on the mound and gave up just one earned run and four hits in six innings. Travis Gates had a solid seventh but he and Matt Hepperle were dinged up for the difference in the eighth.
TJ Drape went seven for the Bears allowing the three runs on nine hits. Garison Jones closed things out, allowing just one Prescott walk in the bottom of the eighth. Rylan Osbjornsen, Mason Hunt, and Shane Lievsay each had a pair of hits, with Osbjornsen and Joshua Wright picking up two RBIs.
The Badgers will wait and see who they will face in the playoffs at the end of the week. Bradshaw Mountain had a game cancelled with Coconino in March, leaving them a half game back of Prescott in the final standings.
