Photo: 9 Jack Burton hit two home runs, giving him three on the season
The Prescott Badgers exploded at the plate for a 28-12 win over the Bradshaw Mountain Bears in Prescott Valley. After a ho-hum performance over Lee Williams in which Prescott managed just three runs, the bats were blazing as the ball was flying all over the ballpark.
For some, seeing a score like this would take you back to the stick ball days, perhaps backyard baseball, a game with your friends in the street, or a little league game before the run rules were implemented. Certainly would entertain the fact there could have been some records set.
The Badgers had a total of 38 base runners, 24 with hits and seven with walks, four batters hit by a pitch, and three reached by errors.
Jack Burton had three hits and led the hit parade with a pair of home runs and six RBIs. Ryan Elliot and Colton Champion had four hits each. Elliot slammed a triple and a home run with two RBIs. Champion had a pair of doubles and knocked in five base runners.
Luke Tobin, Brendan Costes, and Cooper Magnett all had three hits. Tobin with two doubles and three RBIs. Costes knocked in three and Magnett two.
Pitching was another story as the Badgers gave up runs in all but the final at bat for the Bears. Prescott used three in the game. Josh Adler got the start, picking up his third win of the season, but gave up a pair of home runs. They are the first home runs the Prescott pitching staff has given up in 135 innings this season. Matt Hepperle got in some middle relief before Tristan McKown finished the game.
Trailing 4-2 in the third, the Badgers put up five to take the lead 7-5. From there they had a nine run fourth, growing the lead to 16-5. The Bears picked up three in the fourth and fifth to cut it to 16-11. Prescott came back with four in the sixth and batted around for the second time in the game, scoring eight in the top of the seventh.
The two teams will meet again today at Prescott High School to close out the regular season. Another win over the Bears would give the Badgers a first round playoff game at home.
