David McNabb, guest host of Prescott Talks, asks Kara about her background, and what the role of the County Superintendent of Education is.
Kara explains that she has been a teacher for many different types of schools, from charter to public, and that she is currently a member of the Prescott Unified School District Governing Board. She sees a real need for schools to go back to teaching academics and not spend time on Social Emotional Learning or DEI. Reading and writing are crucial subjects so that people can communicate.
Kara points out that the Superintendent can appoint members of the school board, and that she wants to make changes. Currently, the test scores of the Yavapai County schools re lower than the state average, and that is not acceptable.
