The great gift of Easter is Hope – Basil C. Hume
Prescott truly is “Arizona’s Christmas City”. With the parades, the courthouse plaza tree lighting and Acker Night, our town presents to the world, the splendor, color, music and religious themes of Christmas. It is easy to see how Prescott is noted for its Yuletide glamour. Although not as publicized, the other huge Christian holiday is also celebrated extensively in our area. Easter has always been the holiday that represents the renewal of life, both religiously and secularly. Coming, as it does, in the spring, it is obvious that the weather is warming, leaves are returning and flowers are budding.
In the secular vain, there are numerous Easter Festivals and Egg hunts that take place throughout Yavapai County in and around Easter Sunday. Religiously, almost all of the area churches have special Easter Sunday services. Every year, as a tribute to the First Amendment Freedom of Religion, the Stations of the Cross, are celebrated around the Courthouse Plaza in downtown Prescott. Although Sacred Heart Catholic Church sponsors this event, all religions are welcome to attend.
While Spring signals the annual new start for the growth of living things, Easter Sunday represents the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, His conquering of death, and our hope for the forgiveness of sin and everlasting life for our souls after death. While Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, Easter is the jubilation for his resurrection. It is the ultimate time for hope.
At this time in our nation’s history, with inflation raging, with the economic challenges our families are facing, with wars and the threat of wars all over the globe, with the invasion of our country completely encouraged by the current Administration and the bureaucracy, with crime rampant in our cities, we need the hope that Easter represents.
Hopefully our prayers will help us fulfill the hope of Easter. Faith and Hope alone won’t turn our country around. They need to be reinforced with action. The main action is to vote out anyone who even remotely supports so-called progressive, woke policies, or anyone who is an anti-Israel, pro-Hamas bigot. Prior to that, educate yourself, your family members and friends about how bad things really are, and how they can turn around with a new President and with both houses of Congress having a Republican majority.
Until then, enjoy a Happy Easter and hope for a much better future.
