Badgers Open Up GCR Play With 11-2 Win Over Coconino

The Prescott Badgers scored in four different innings as they beat the Coconino Panthers 11-2 in the Grand Canyon Region opener for both squads.

Adrian Sanderford picked up the win going five innings while allowing just two runs and scattering eight hits with seven strikeouts.

Jack Burton had a pair of hits including a double with four RBIS. Ivan Schuster also had two hits, with a double and an RBI. Colton Champion was the third Badger with two hits. Brendan Costes had an RBI double.

Each team opened up with a run in the first inning, but the Badgers pulled away with four runs in each of the second and third innings. Coconino picked up their final run in the third as Sanderford silenced the Panther bats in the fourth and fifth. Josh Adler came in and closed the game out striking out three in his two innings of work.

Kai Holt and Connor Culwell each had two hits for Coconino. Culwell was one of three pitches used by the Panthers and took the loss.

Prescott (1-0) in the GCR and (8-3) overall, will host the Panthers (0-1), (8-5), today at 3 pm.

The Coconino Panthers beat the Prescott Badgers 10-0 in the Grand Canyon Region opener for both teams on a cold and wet afternoon at Prescott High School.

Panther’s pitcher Kaitlyn Tso allowed just one hit while striking out 15 and walking three, to pick up the complete game win.

Coconino improves to (8-5) on the season, while the Badgers slip to (9-6). The two teams will battle each other again this afternoon in Flagstaff.
