On Saturday just before 1 p.m., Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a 79-year-old man visiting from North Berwick, Maine who fell while hiking Pyramid Trail in Sedona, Ariz. Sedona Fire Department was already on scene where they found the hiker who apparently slipped and fell from the trail approximately 30-35 feet while hiking with his wife, sustaining fatal injuries.
There were multiple witnesses to the fall. The man was witnessed struggling on the hike and was asked if he needed help. He told passers-by that he was fine but minutes later slipped. During his fall down the steep embankment he hit his head multiple times. The man was pronounced dead on the scene. The death was ruled accidental.
