Yavapai County Preparedness Team: Preparing for a Barter Economy

Jim Arroyo, President of the Yavapai County Preparedness Team, discusses several scenarios of civil disorder/civil unrest and how to get ready. He mentions the possibilities of hyperinflation, street violence in the large cities, and government breakdown.

Jim gets into what to stock up on for a barter economy. He suggests that extra cash should be exchanged for gold and silver, buying “junk silver” (pre-1965 US coins). Hand tools are another item that can be bartered, as well as ammunition, and building materials.

  1. A barter economy could very likely happen again. It is a classic situation that has happened in previous times as what took place during high inflation of the 70’s recessionary times into the 90’s. Cash was scarce. Even in my businessI had to trade people to keep going and it was not a good situation as it did not pay bills. My business liked to eat cash. Crime became a serious issue. Theft and pilfering in my business and my vehicles. I cut out all my employees. Violence was a problem as people were pulling guns on me. May not I hope see as much of that here but we could see more people coming here with those intentions as they get more desperate. Also from the border. Some of these people have families to feed.
