GCR Teams Bow Out In Opening Round

Photo: Gabriel Ricketts, seen here in his final game against Prescott, ended his career as the top rusher in Bradshaw Mountain Bear history

#11 Bradshaw Mountain at #5 Thunderbird

It is a good season for your region if you get half your teams into the playoffs. Unfortunately, all three went home with a loss to end their seasons. A total of 11 points was the difference with region champ Lee Williams falling by the most, seven.

The Bradshaw Mountain Bears rally came up short on a 17-16 loss to the Thunderbird Titans in Phoenix. Down by one, the Bears attempted a two point conversion in the final quarter that failed. Trailing 17-3 to start the final quarter, the Bears scored twice but decided to go for two after the Titans jumped off sides to move the ball half the distance to the one and a half yard line. Ricketts run up the middle was stopped short. After getting the onside kick, Bradshaw Mountain fumbled away their last chance in the final minute.

Gabriel Ricketts scored a touchdown, but was held to just 40 yards on 15 carries as the rushing leader in Bradshaw Mountain history played his final high school game. Ricketts rushed for 3210 yards and 33 touchdowns over the course of three varsity seasons. The Bears end their season at (7-4).

Grand Canyon Region champion Lee Williams Volunteers lost their opening round game to Arizona College Prep 21-14 in Kingman. The only GCR team to host a playoff game ends their season at (9-2).

Lee Williams shut out the Knights in the second half, but only managed to score a third quarter touchdown. The Volunteers held the ball on three separate occasions in the final quarter, with their best chance to score when they ended up turning over the ball on downs at the AZ College Prep 21.
