Prescott Valley Police Department Offers Tips to Avoid Property Title/Deed Fraud

[Editor’s note: The Eagle Fraud Alert Program is available to everyone in Yavapai County.]

The Prescott Valley Police Department wants property owners of the Town of Prescott Valley to be aware that the Yavapai County Recorder’s Office can send alerts when someone tries to file or make changes to your property title or deed under your name. This service is called the Eagle Fraud Alert program.

The reason for this program is that it is relatively simple for a fraudster to assume your identity. Thanks to digitization, everything a thief needs can be easily accessed online, and fake documents can be filed with the county, transferring your title out of your name for a nominal fee of around $30. Thieves effectively steal your home, then they can borrow against it or sell it behind your back.

The Eagle Fraud Alert Program is a FREE service to Yavapai County citizens who are concerned about potential deception through recordings in Yavapai County. You must subscribe for this service and may do so at this website .

The Eagle Fraud Alert will not stop or prevent such a transaction; however, it will give you early notice to intervene and try to stop it before the fraudster can do irreparable damage.

This is another way in which the Prescott Valley Police Department is serving its community.

Prescott Valley Police Department can be contacted at (928) 772-9267 for non-emergencies, 911 for emergencies. Yavapai County Silent witness is 1-800-932-3232.
