Did you know that one of the leading causes of house fires is unattended cooking? This Fire Prevention Week, let’s commit to safer kitchen habits. Here are a few tips:
- Turn pot handles backward so they face the stove, rather than poking out where they could get snagged on clothing or bumped into
- Stay by the stove: Whether you’re frying, boiling, or simmering, always keep an eye on your cooking. It only takes a moment for a small mishap to turn into a big disaster!
- Keep at least three feet around the stove as a child-free zone.
- Say NO to distractions: Avoid multitasking while cooking. Put down your phone, turn off the TV, and focus on the task at hand to prevent potential fire hazards
- If grease catches fire, slide a pot or pan lid over the fire and turn off the stove
Safety is in your hands: By following this simple rule, you’re taking a big step in protecting your home and loved ones. Let’s make every week Fire Prevention Week!
Spread the word and share this essential tip. Together, we can create safer kitchens and safer homes.
