Mark your calendars because the 8th annual Costumes for Kids 5K Fun Run and Halloween Fest is returning to Prescott! This fantastic event will be held on Saturday, October 28th, right at the Prescott Courthouse Square.
What’s even better is that, this event is all about helping kids in foster care in Yavapai County. It’s organized by the Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation, a nonprofit that’s been supporting foster children in Yavapai County for more than 20 years through their programs designed to help foster youth transition into adulthood, have their needs met, and have the items/experiences that enrich lives.
The Costumes for Kids 5K Fun Run is not just a race; it’s also a way to have fun and raise money to help these special children. This year, the Foundation is aiming to raise $20,000 to help nearly 300 foster children in the county, most of whom live in the Quad-Cities area. So far, the Foundation has raised over $11,000, but they still needs the community’s help to raise the rest.
“This isn’t just some ordinary 5K,” expressed Mona Stephens the Foundation’s Development Director. “It’s a morning with the capability to make a great impact on this county’s most vulnerable youth while having a blast, winning prizes, playing games, and beating personal records.”
The 5K Fun Run has gotten better and more popular each year. Kids 16 and under, foster families, and kinship placements can all join the event for free. This year, the Foundation promises the event will be the best one yet. They’ve improved the race route, added timing for competitive runners, set up a start-finish line for a great photo finish, and have some amazing prizes and raffles.
Jessica, a past 5K participant, says, “I remember when we first attended this event, there were only about 20 people there. It’s incredible to see how much it’s grown. It’s become a family tradition, and my boys absolutely love it!”
The 5K Fun Run & Halloween Fest is from 9:00am until 12:00pm. At 9:00am there will be walk-up registration, runner check-in, food, games, face-painting, music, and the costume contest sign up. The 5K race begins at 10:00am followed by the 1 mile family fun run which begins at 10:10am. At 11:00am pizza will arrive for all participants and shortly after medals will be awarded to the fastest runners, awards for the costume contests will be given, and raffle winners will be announced. The event will end by 12:00pm.

The Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation invites everyone in the community to join the fun and see why this event has grown from 20 participants to nearly 300 and is still growing. They’re also looking for volunteers to help make the event a success.
