SR89 Roadway & Infrastructure Improvements Project – Community Feedback Requested

The State Route 89 (SR89) Roadway & Infrastructure Improvements Project is currently in the early planning stages by the City of Prescott Public Works Department (City). The project includes the construction of sewer infrastructure improvements along SR89, between the Phippen Roundabout and Willow Lake Road Roundabout, with the potential of additional roadway improvements. The goals of this project include upgrading sewer mains to centralize the wastewater treatment processes at the Airport Water Reclamation Facility, improve access and safety at intersections, reduce traffic congestion, provide for safer evacuation routes, minimize impacts to the Granite Dells and improve the ride quality for motorists.

The City is interested in receiving comments from the community regarding this project. While there is no formal design in place for this project, a conceptual layout has been produced to illustrate the potential roadway improvements being considered. To view the conceptual layout, learn more about the project and take the project survey, please visit www.sr89improvements.com. Please note that the survey will close on November 10, 2023.

The City will be hosting a community open house meeting to discuss this project in greater detail on Wednesday, October 4, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Adult Center of Prescott, located at 1280 East Rosser Street. There will be no formal presentation at this meeting and residents are free to come and go throughout the evening. To receive future project updates, email a request to news@sr89improvements.com.

  1. I submitted a proposal to best serve both the preservation of the Dells and also double the capacity of traffic through the narrows. Hopefully ADOT and Prescott will consider double decking Sr. 89 and eliminating months of blasting-traffic delays and further destruction of our Red Rocks. By elevating North bound traffics two lanes no destruction would be required.
The limited drives off 89 would be easily served by the roundabout at the Philipi roundabout and it would also be a safer of and on for those drives than it is now to enter 89 traffic.
