Chabad of Prescott Offers 30-Minute Community Rosh Hashanah Service at Founding Fathers Collective, Sunday, September 17

Back by popular demand, Rabbi Elie Filler, of Chabad of Prescott, Arizona, is promoting a brief, open-to-all, 30-minute Rosh Hashanah ceremony that includes the primary observances of the holiday.

A meaningful compact service with the main mitzvah of the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, blowing the shofar (ram’s horn), will be held at Founding Fathers by the Creek.  There will also be delicious traditional honey cake and free New Year Giveaways!

The “Community Tashlich & Shofar Service” will take place on Sunday September 17, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, at the Founding Fathers Collective, 218 N, Granite St., Prescott AZ, 86301.

This year’s Shofar blowing will take place on the 2nd day of Rosh Hashana, as the first day is the Sabbath in which the sounding of the Shofar is prohibited.

Tashlich is a practice rich in symbolic and mystical meaning. It is customarily performed on the first day of Rosh Hashanah. A brief prayer is recited near a body of water, preferably containing live fish, in which we express our prayerful hope that G-d will cast our misdeeds and indiscretions into the depths of the sea, and that we will be granted a good and sweet New Year filled with G-d’s abundant and manifold blessings.

The sounding of the shofar (ram’s horn) is the central mitzvah of Rosh Hashanah. Typically, it is part of the Rosh Hashanah synagogue services. However, if for any reason one did not attend services, the shofar sounding can be fulfilled throughout the day of Rosh Hashanah. The mitzvah of shofar also contains many deep and inspiring messages for us to reflect upon.

“According to Jewish tradition the gates of heaven are open on the New Year, and G-d accepts prayers from everyone,” said Rabbi Elie Filler, “That served as our inspiration to create Rosh Hashanah opportunities for everyone in the community.”

Rosh Hashanah begins this year at sundown on Friday, September 15, and extends until nightfall on Sunday, September 17.

Additionally, there will be Full Services at Chabad of Prescott September 15th 6:30 pm followed by a Rosh Hashanah Dinner,  September 16th at 10:00 am as well as September 17th at 10:00 am. For more info visit our website.

About Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is observed this year beginning sundown on Friday, September 15th through nightfall on Sunday, September 17.  Literally meaning “head of the year,” the two-day holiday commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday.
