Deputies Save Life of Man Overdosing in Bathtub
On Saturday August 19th at 10:45 pm YCSO deputes were dispatched to a location on S. State Route 69 in Mayer in reference to a 911 call with the caller screaming for someone to wake up.
Two deputies were close by at the time of the call and luckily had an extremely fast response time. They arrived on scene and located a 43-year-old man overdosing in the bathtub. The man was unresponsive, and deputies located fentanyl paraphernalia in the immediate area around the man, along with a lighter still in his hand. Deputies also located approximately an ounce of methamphetamine and a small bag full of unknown pills that were in the immediate area of the bathtub.
The deputies administered NARCAN and after 4 doses, the victim was still unresponsive. Deputies were able to lift him out of the bathtub and attempted a sternum rub, but there was no response to the pain stimulus. The man then stopped breathing and had no pulse. Deputies began CPR and administered more NARCAN. The deputies were able to get a pulse back and the victim began very shallow breathing.
Deputies then moved the victim outside so the Mayer Fire Department could take over medical care. Deputies administered a total of 10 doses of NARCAN. Mayer Fire transported the man to YRMC-E. At the time of being transported he was alert, breathing, and talking with the fire department.
The fast thinking and actions by the two YCSO deputies unequivocally saved the man’s life, and they are to be commended.
