The Northern Arizona Wranglers wrap up their third straight week on the road with a final stop in Tucson tonight to take on their in-state rivals, the Tucson Sugar Skulls. The game tonight can be seen on the IFL YouTube channel beginning at 6:05pm.
The Wranglers are coming off a great bounce back 36-27 victory in Henderson, Nevada, over the Vegas Knight Hawks. The Tucson Sugar Skulls are coming off a bye week and will be well rested and ready to fight for a bounce back victory themselves. During their last outing on the field, the Sugar Skulls lost a double overtime thriller to the San Diego Strike Force. This was the Sugar Skulls first loss of the 2023 season. The Wranglers will be heading into Tucson with a 3-2 record, while the Sugar Skulls currently hold a 3-1 record.
This matchup between Northern Arizona and Tucson has major Indoor Football League Western Conference Playoff implications. Despite being early into the 2023 season, this faceoff is between two of the current top three teams in the league’s Western Conference. This is a huge game for both teams, and the Wranglers will be looking to jump the Sugar Skulls in the standings with a victory on Saturday evening. This is the first showdown between the Wranglers and Sugar Skulls this season. Northern Arizona has defeated Tucson in their last three meetings, including a victory in the first round of the 2022 IFL Playoffs. Both team rosters look very different than they did in 2022, however the game should still be very intense and hard-fought.
The Sugar Skulls are a very talented team led by the 2022 IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, quarterback Ramone Atkins. Tucson will pose a great challenge for Northern Arizona, and the Wranglers will need a complete performance to beat the top team in the IFL’s Western Conference. Wranglers quarterback Garrett Kettle looked great last week, as he threw three touchdown passes. The Wranglers defense played well against Vegas as well, and might need to force some turnovers against a tough Sugar Skulls squad. Northern Arizona will need to limit their mistakes on Saturday evening. The Wranglers will be focused and ready to go on the road.
A viewing party will be held at the Hideout Bar in Prescott Valley. Fans can enjoy the game, and receive drink discounts throughout the game, if they wear their Wrangler gear.
