More than 3000 locations across the world host National Wreaths Across America Day. All across Arizona, wreath-laying events happened Saturday, December 17, recognizing how much has been given by our country’s service members. In addition each state has one ceremonial wreath representing all the other wreaths being laid. This year’s ceremonial wreath for Arizona has been placed at the Old Governor’s Mansion, the Arizona Territory’s first capitol, located on the campus of the Sharlot Hall Museum.
Wreaths Across America was created to “Remember, Honor, and Teach” about those who have served. It is responsible for wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery and since the 1990s has laid more than 2 million wreaths on veteran gravesites. The Sharlot Hall Museum is honored to be the site for this year’s ceremonial wreath for the state of Arizona. The wreath will be displayed until Christmas and when taken down, the flags on the wreath will be added to the museum’s collection.
Visitors are encouraged to stop and see the wreath during this week prior to Christmas and pop into the Museum Store for a few last-minute gifts. For more information on Wreaths Across America, please visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org.
The Sharlot Hall Museum, located two blocks west of Prescott’s Courthouse Plaza, is one of Arizona’s premier history museums. Its four-acre campus tells Arizona’s story through exhibits, gardens, and historic buildings, including the 1864 Territorial Governor’s Mansion. Events and programs include the annual Prescott Indian Art Market, Sharlot’s Cellar, monthly Living History Adventure days, and more
