Photo: Jacob Fimbres pitches as Bruce Miller waits his turn
Jacob Fimbres of Queen Creek, won the championship Sunday in the Papa John’s Pizza Horseshoe Tournament at Watson Lake in Prescott. Fimbres had to win two extra contests after being involved in a three way tie with Trisha Lincoln and Bruce Miller. The champion, who tossed 166 ringers on the day, beat Lincoln in the overtime final, after knocking off Miller.
The day was perfect for pitching as the Mile Hi Horseshoe Club hosted their final major event for the season. The Class B winner was Hal Handelman, who went 4-1, with his only loss coming to Patti Lopez-Cepero. Mike Brewer picked up second place, and Steve Harman was third. The only tie of the day was between birthday girl Mary Fimbres, and Brewer, in their first game of the day.

Class C winner was John Lincoln of Prescott, despite a loss in game two to Kevin Botts. Lincoln was able to knock off the remaining players in the class for first place. Botts, of Apache Junction, dropped a pair of games to Emmett Jones and Joe Starika, but had a higher ringer percentage to claim second.
A newcomer to the Prescott courts, Charlene Campbell of Marana, made quite an impression as she swept the Class D division. Campbell also won the 50/50 raffle to make it a perfect day for her. Bruce Taylor of Tucson took second.
Gift certificates were provided by Augie’s Restaurant in Prescott, Jen’s Café in Prescott Valley, and Rock Springs Café in Black Canyon City. Papa John’s provided pizza for everyone.
