Varsity Softball

The Prescott Badgers got another great pitching performance by Eliza Legge and Madison Vick knocked in both runs to give the Badgers a tough 2-1 thriller victory on a very cool and windy day at Prescott High School.

The fans that came out were treated to a playoff type game as the Eagles and Badgers battled it out with Prescott nearly getting the shutout. Legge allowed no earned runs, giving up just four hits, and striking out seven.

Prescott took a 1-0 lead in the second when Madison Vick grounded out to second, scoring Leigha Walker. The score would stay that way till the bottom of the sixth.

It looked for a moment that the Badgers would get some distance between them and the Eagles on the scoreboard, but all three outs came on base runners being tagged out, allowing for just one run. Flagstaff played a clean game with no errors, handled the ball great to get all three runners. Madison Vick came through with a solid single to center scoring Leigha Walker again for a 2-0 lead.

Prescott coach Randall Bryan said, “That inning was very frustrating, but the girls played through it and got a big win.”

Danica Wilson led off the seventh with a double, she would eventually score on an error at first base. Legge kept her composure, striking out the next batter for the final out.

Legge said, “I felt good out there today, and felt better going into the last inning with that second run. Flagstaff is always tough, but we did what we had to in order to get the win.”

Gracie Schmitz went the distance for the Eagles, allowing the two runs on four hits, with three strikeouts. Prescott received eight walks in the contest.

Coach Bryan added, “Eliza pitched great. Even after that error she focused on getting that last out.”

The Badgers evened their Grand Canyon Region mark at (4-4), and are (11-10) overall. Prescott is sitting it the 15th position in the Division 4A rankings. Flagstaff falls to (3-4) and (9-13).
