The Prescott Badgers closed out their regular season with an 8-0 win over the Bradshaw Mountain Bears in Prescott Valley. After the tough loss at home to #1 Flagstaff last Friday, Prescott ranked #4, wanted to move forward as they get ready for the playoffs.

It took a little over twelve minutes, before the Badgers were able to take the lead. Elle Magnett used her head to bounce one into the net with 27:50 on the clock. Less than a minute later, Rieley Petkovich split two defenders and kicked in the second goal for the Badgers. A few seconds later, Elle Magnett added her second goal with 26:19 left in the half to make it 3-0. All three goals coming in just 91 seconds.

Nicole Raiss blasted her long range goal with 13:08 on the clock, to give Prescott a 4-0 lead. Prescott continued the offensive threat, but Bradshaw Mountain goal keeper Zada Paulino and company were able to keep the ball out of the net.

The second half was familiar to the first as the Badgers worked to get back into it. Once they scored, they scored in bunches again, four goals in a little over seven minutes.

Kari Kasun had a pair of breakaway goals thanks to great passes, scoring her two goals in a row, increasing the Badgers lead to 6-0. The first came with 32:46 left, and the second followed at 31:30. Kasun, who also had a pair of assists said, “Today was fun after having a tough weekend. We were a little slow at the start, but things worked out.  I am looking forward to see who we play in the playoffs.”

The seventh Badger goal came with 26:13 left. Delaney Lucas, who was surrounded by Bears, managed to get enough space and fire a rocket into the net.

Ellie Magnett scored the final goal on a penalty kick with 25:05 to play, but the game ended at the twenty minute mark because of the score.

Magnett, who had the hat trick with three goals said, “I thought it pretty a good game. We were a little messy at first but we figured it out. Our passing picked up and we were able to make things happen. Now we just have to see who we get in the playoffs, and hopefully we can get off to a good start.”

Badger goal keeper Charlotte Osburn earned her 9th shutout this season, and has only given up 8 goals overall in 12 games.

Coach Paul Campuzano said, “It’s always a tough game when you play your cross town rival. Everyone was up for it, and I know they are down some players. Overall ok, unfortunately it wasn’t good, but we have four days to practice to get ready for Saturday.”

The Badgers (11-1-1) will have to wait a couple days to see who they will host on Saturday.
