The Verde Valley Republican Club has announced that they will host an LD1 candidate forum for legislative candidates this Saturday, February 5th, 10:00 am at the VFW Post 7400, 705 E Aspen Street, in Cottonwood. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. An RSVP is requested by emailing verdevalleyrepublicans@gmail.com.
The candidate lineup includes all announced Republican candidates for the state legislature including incumbents Rep Judy Burgess and Rep Quang Nguyen, and challengers Selina Bliss, and Steve Gesell. This is the first candidate forum of the 2022 election season at which all four candidates will appear together. Each candidate will offer introductory comments about their qualifications and legislative goals and take questions from the audience.
This candidate forum is of particular importance to LD1 voters. During the campaign there are only a handful of candidate forums at which all the candidates are present at the same time and voters have an opportunity to hear from them directly and make comparisons. In addition, LD1 boundaries which include all of Prescott and Prescott Valley and the surrounding area, are changing for 2022 to encompass all of Yavapai County. Portions of the county previously included in LD6 are now part of LD1. This means that with the addition of Cottonwood, Jerome, Clarkdale, the Verde Valley and the southern portions of Sedona and Oak Creek, in the newly configured District, the composition of LD1 voters is changing. Voter registration will continue to lean Republican, but more Independents and Democrats have been added to the mix.
All those interested in meeting the Republican candidates for the state legislature are cordially invited to attend this candidate forum Saturday, February 5th, 10:00am, at the VFW in Cottonwood.
