The Yavapai Patriots have announced that former Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce, will speak at their next meeting, Saturday, March 20th, at 1:30pm in the Arizona Room of the Hassayampa Inn, in downtown Prescott. Senator Pearce, who represented LD18 in the Arizona Senate from 2006 to 2011, gained national prominence as the sponsor of SB1070, widely regarded as the strongest anti-illegal immigration legislation in the country. After passing the state legislature in 2010 and being signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer, it was immediately challenged by the Obama administration. Some key provisions were curtailed by the Supreme Court, but much of SB1070 was upheld and remains in force today.
Although best known for his work on border security and immigration issues, Pearce has had a long and illustrious career in law enforcement and politics. He served as a Chief Deputy to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in the 1990’s before becoming Director of the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles. He is credited with the implementation of ServiceArizona.com, the online program for updating motor vehicle information that is still in use today. In 2000 he was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives where he served until moving to the State Senate from 2006 to 2011. He later served as Vice Chair of the State GOP and Deputy Chief of the Maricopa Treasure’s Office. In 2003 Pearce was named “Hero of the Taxpayer” by the Americans for Tax Reform. He remains a popular figure among conservatives as a national spokesman for immigration enforcement and border security.
Dr. Lyle Rapacki, founder and Chairman of the Yavapai Patriots, states that the purpose of the organization is to provide a forum for and networking opportunities for constitutional patriots. Recent speakers have included Sheriff Richard Mack, founder of the Constitutional Sheriff’s and Peace Officer’s Association and State Representative Mark Finchem, who has been leading the effort on Arizona Election Integrity.
