Monsoonal Moisture Continues to Diminish Pine Fire Activity

Location: Pine Mountain Wilderness – Verde Ranger District (T11N, R5E, SEC 35)
Start Date: 07-12-20
Size: 2170 Acres
Percent Contained: 90%
Cause: Lightning
Vegetation: Grass, Brush, Ponderosa Pine
Summary: The Pine Fire again received significant precipitation Friday afternoon and evening aiding in the minimization of fire activity. Air Attack observed the fire prior to afternoon storms and implied that no smoke was visible. Fire managers will continue to monitor as more precipitation is expected. Forest ordered closures can be expected in the future so that fire managers and forest personnel can go in and evaluate the fire area to mitigate any hazard trees along the wilderness trail systems for public safety.

Due to the fire’s remote Wilderness location and few values at risk, combined with frequent and significant precipitation, fire managers will continue to engage the fire with a monitor strategy to limit the exposure to both ground and aerial firefighting resources. The remote Pine Mountain Wilderness would present challenges to extract injured personnel if an incident were to occur.

Resources: 1-Type Three Helicopter (Aerial Reconnaissance)
Weather: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures ranging from 87-97 degrees, minimum relative humidity 30-50%, winds 5-10 MPH out of the South West, forecasted thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds. There will be a 40% chance of precipitation.
Closures: All trails leading into the Pine Mountain Wilderness for public safety.
Remember – Fireworks are illegal on public land: every forest, every day.
