On December 24, 2021, at approximately 6:47 PM, Prescott Police Officers responded to the Journey’s shoe store, located inside the Prescott Gateway Mall, upon the report of an armed robbery which had just occurred.
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that a female suspect came into the store asking employees to set aside numerous pairs of shoes for her. The suspect then advised employees to box the shoes and that she would have to wait for her husband to arrive in order to pay for the items. The suspect then left the store, returning approximately 40 minutes later. Upon return, the suspect pointed a handgun at two store employees and demanded the cash from both registers. The suspect then ordered both employees to carry the cash and shoes and forced them to walk in front of her out to her vehicle. She then had them place the items in the trunk of her vehicle prior to fleeing the scene.
The store employees were able to quickly phone police, providing a detailed description of the suspect vehicle including a license plate. Responding officers located the vehicle in the downtown area a short time later and initiated a traffic stop. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident. All the stolen items were located inside the vehicle to include over $3,700 in cash, approximately $1,500 in shoes, as well as the handgun.
The suspect was identified as Holly Ailiff, a 38-year-old Prescott resident. Ailiff admitted her involvement in this incident and was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on felony charges of Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping.
We would like to point out that both victims in this case were not injured and acted exemplary during a very stressful situation. They remained calm, followed directions, and acted as good witnesses. As a result, they were able to quickly provide police with a timely, accurate description which led to the quick apprehension of the suspect
