The Chino Valley Police Department is pleased to announce it has been awarded three grants totaling $22,408 from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) for Federal Fiscal Year 2027. These grants will support enhanced traffic enforcement, impaired driving prevention, and child passenger safety education, furthering the department’s commitment to reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
DUI Enforcement Grant – $5,000
This funding will support additional DUI enforcement efforts, including officer overtime and participation in multi-agency DUI task force operations. These efforts focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways to reduce alcohol- and drug-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) – $8,400
The STEP grant will provide funding for targeted traffic enforcement addressing speeding, reckless driving, and other hazardous driving behaviors. Through increased enforcement during high-traffic periods, holidays, and special operations, the department aims to encourage responsible driving, improve compliance with traffic laws, and reduce preventable crashes.
Occupant Protection Grant – $9,008 This grant will support the department’s child passenger safety education and outreach efforts by providing car seats to income-eligible families, along with installation assistance and hands-on training from certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Funding will also provide a portable canopy for outdoor events, helping ensure a safe and comfortable environment while promoting proper child restraint use and reducing preventable injuries.
Through these initiatives, the Chino Valley Police Department will continue working with neighboring law enforcement agencies and community partners to promote traffic safety through enforcement, education, and public awareness.
The Chino Valley Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to Director J.M. “Jesse” Torrez and the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for their continued partnership and investment in the safety of our community. This funding provides valuable resources that strengthen our ability to protect motorists, passengers, and families throughout Chino Valley and surrounding communities.
The Chino Valley Police Department remains committed to making our roadways safer through proactive enforcement, education, and community partnerships.
