The Prescott Police Department is pleased to announce the award of $132,154 in grant funding from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to support the Department’s ongoing traffic safety initiatives during Fiscal Year 2027.
This year’s funding represents a significant increase over previous years and will support several traffic safety programs focused on impaired driving, aggressive driving, speed, pedestrian safety, and occupant protection. The grants will provide funding for officer overtime to conduct additional traffic enforcement details throughout Prescott. These operations will focus on dangerous driving behaviors that contribute to serious injury and fatal collisions. The Department will also continue its partnership with the Tri-City DUI Task Force, working alongside neighboring law enforcement agencies to conduct coordinated DUI enforcement operations throughout the region.
New this year, the Department has been awarded an Occupant Protection grant that will support the development of a Child Passenger Safety Program. Through this program, specially trained and certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will provide education to parents and caregivers, conduct child safety seat inspections, and assist with the proper installation of car seats. The grant will also fund replacement car seats for families with worn, expired, or otherwise unsafe child restraints, helping ensure children are properly secured when traveling in vehicles.
“Traffic safety remains a priority for our department, and we are grateful for the continued support of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety,” said Chief of Police Jon Brambila. “This funding allows us to put additional officers on the road to address dangerous driving behaviors while also expanding our community education efforts. We are especially excited to introduce our Child Passenger Safety Program, which gives us another opportunity to prevent injuries and protect some of our most vulnerable passengers.”
The Prescott Police Department remains committed to reducing preventable crashes through a combination of proactive enforcement, education, and community partnerships. The Department extends its appreciation to the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its continued investment in making Prescott’s roadways safer for motorists, pedestrians, and families.
