Embry-Riddle Hosts Aviation History Presentation: ‘The Thousand Mile Mission’ with Chuck Lawsen

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will welcome Chuck Lawsen—videographer and photographer—for an upcoming Aviation History Speaking Series event titled ‘The Thousand Mile Mission.’

The presentation, free and open to the public, will take place Wednesday, October 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Davis Learning Center (DLC) Auditorium at Embry-Riddle. Community members are invited to explore this chapter of local aviation history.  Expect to see vintage photographs, flight simulator imagery and evocative music.

The World War II documentary will follow the story of Chuck Lawsen’s father, WWII, B-17 pilot, Lt. Robert Lawsen. Robert’s second mission was a thousand-mile raid, one of the longest of the eight the Air Force flew in 1944.

Chuck has been a military aircraft and flight simulator enthusiast his whole life. In 2004 he learned how to make renditions of virtual aircraft. Since then he has published over 100 “paints” which have been downloaded over 100,000 times all over the world. In 2009, he published his first documentary which took 13 months to complete. Now, he presents “The Thousand Mile Mission.”

For more information, contact event coordinator Chris Walton at waltonc1@erau.edu or 928-777-6960. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with a defining story of Prescott’s aviation past.
