State Route 89 Vehicle Collision – Prescott Police Department

On September 7, 2026, at approximately 6:07 p.m., Prescott Police officers responded to a vehicle collision on State Route 89 near milepost 317.

The investigation determined that an 81-year-old male Prescott resident was traveling southbound on State Route 89 when his vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on. The second vehicle was driven by a 75-year-old female with a 77-year-old male passenger, both residents of Prescott Valley. The reason for the first vehicle entering oncoming traffic remains unknown and is still under investigation.

Personnel from the Prescott Fire Department and Lifeline responded to provide medical aid. Due to the extent of their injuries, all three individuals were flown to a Phoenix-area hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

The Prescott Police Department Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene to conduct a detailed investigation. The highway was closed for several hours and was reopened at approximately 11:50 p.m.
