Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Approved to Offer GI Bill® Benefits for On-the-Job Training

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) is proud to announce it is now approved to offer GI Bill® benefits to eligible veterans through on-the-job training programs.

This approval allows veterans to use their GI Bill benefits while pursuing a career in the fire service with CAFMA, whether entering the profession for the first time or continuing their service as an experienced firefighter. Participants may be eligible to receive GI Bill benefits while completing approved training requirements and earning a competitive salary and benefits package.

Veterans bring valuable experience in leadership, decision-making, and working effectively in high-pressure environments. As fire and EMS agencies nationwide recruit the next generation of firefighters, expanding access to these benefits helps reduce barriers for qualified veterans while strengthening the local emergency response workforce for the communities CAFMA serves.

“The fire service and the military share a foundation of discipline, teamwork, leadership, and service,” said John Feddema, CAFMA Fire Chief. “This approval creates a clear pathway for veterans to continue serving their community while building a rewarding career with CAFMA.”

CAFMA anticipates opening applications for entry-level firefighters in autumn 2026. Entry-level applicants must possess current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and CPR certifications, a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), and a valid driver’s license. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online at www.cazfire.gov when the recruitment period opens.
