Barney Fife remains one of television’s most beloved and enduring characters. Brilliantly portrayed by the legendary Don Knotts on The Andy Griffith Show, the bumbling but earnest deputy became a cultural icon of the 1960s and beyond. Don Knotts’ remarkable career spanned television, film, and stage, cementing his place as one of America’s most treasured entertainers.
Now, his nephew, former professional actor Bill Knotts, brings audiences a heartfelt and entertaining tribute with Mayberry Memories of Don Knotts. The one-man show is touring theaters and senior living communities nationwide, including the Elks Theatre.
While studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in the 1970s, Bill lived with Don and his wife in Beverly Hills — an experience that gave him a rare behind-the-scenes view of the man behind Barney Fife. In this nostalgic presentation, Bill combines personal stories, family photos, and memorable video clips to transport audiences back to Mayberry.
The show explores Don’s early career, how he landed the role of Barney Fife, his successful film career with Universal, his collaborations with Tim Conway in several Disney films, and his later television roles in Three’s Company and Matlock. Bill also shares touching and humorous recollections involving Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, and Tim Conway. Mayberry Memories is a warm celebration of laughter, legacy, and the timeless charm of Don Knotts — leaving audiences smiling long after the curtain falls.
This one man show takes place on Sunday, July 19th at 3 pm at the Elks Theatre. Tickets can be purchased HERE
