Yavapai College Launches Digital Wayfinding at its Prescott and Verde Valley Campuses

Finding one’s way around Yavapai College’s Prescott and Verde Valley campuses just became much easier with the introduction of digital wayfinding. Students, community members and other visitors may now use their phones to scan a QR code to download the MazeMap application.

Multiple outdoor signs will populate parking lots and other locations across both campuses, inviting students and visitors to “Explore YC.” The signs will feature a QR code that, when scanned with one’s phone camera, will invite users to download the MazeMap application for their respective location. Just be sure to initialize location tracking for the application once installed.

Once installed and activated, users may access a digital map of the campus, revealing the locations of all the location’s buildings, parking lots, and more. Zooming into the map will provide greater details as to what sorts of resources are located in the various buildings, such as restrooms, classrooms, labs, and more.

The maps also include ADA features, such as wheelchair ramps, elevators, and accessible routes.

“Yavapai College is constantly evolving its physical spaces to meet the needs of its stakeholders as we start new programs and partnerships,” Yavapai College Chief Information Officer Patrick Burns said. “Because of constant change, we realized we needed a digital wayfinding solution that could be updated in real time to keep pace with our growth and help our students and community members find their destinations. In June of 2025, Yavapai College engaged MazeMap to map over 700,000 square feet of indoor space and the exterior pathways at our locations.”

Burns said that Yavapai College chose to partner with MazeMap because they were the best digital wayfinding vendor in terms of technology and return on investment. Yavapai College stakeholders will begin to see more benefits of the MazeMap system this year.

“We will be integrating the wayfinding platform into our new student portal and linking student schedules to classroom locations,” Burns said. “Additionally, students and community members will begin to see QR code signs at our locations that they can use to access the maps and navigate to the correct location on campus. For the best experience, users should enable location services on their smartphone browser to get real-time ‘blue dot’ navigation.”

In addition to the outdoor signs, stickers with building-specific QR codes will populate multiple buildings at both campuses, which will for students and visitors allow them to bring up a centered map of where they are in real time.

In addition to wayfinding, we also offer space booking and visualization tools, indoor positioning, IoT [Internet of Things] integrations and more.”
