On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at approximately 3:39 p.m., the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) responded to a reported tree fire with extension to a home in the area of Windsong Way and West Road 3 North in Chino Valley.
The fire started while a propane torch was being used outdoors to burn weeds. Wind conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly into nearby shrubs and the corner of the home.

Thanks to the decisive actions of Engine 61, the first crew on scene, Captain Buchanan and his firefighters were able to stop the fire before it spread into the residence. Their rapid response and quick thinking ultimately saved the house and allowed the residents to safely remain in their home following the incident.
There were no reported civilian or first responder injuries.
CAFMA would like to remind the community to follow the local burn permit process before conducting outdoor burning activities. Residents should always verify whether it is a burn day prior to starting any burn activity and follow all burn restrictions and safety precautions.
