Saturday, October 18th around 1:00 PM, Prescott Fire Department crews responded to a serious incident involving an injured male climber. While ascending, a several-hundred-pound boulder dislodged, causing a critical leg injury.
Crews faced a difficult hike to reach the remote site, where they stabilized the patient and transported him via a litter basket. Due to the severity of the injury, he was airlifted from the scene to a Level I trauma center.
Huge thanks to our assisting partners — Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, Priority Ambulance, Prescott Police Department, and Native Air — for their teamwork and support.
The granite areas around Watson Lake offer incredible climbing opportunities, but they also come with risks. Please remember to:
- Check rock stability and avoid loose areas.
- Never climb alone.
- Always tell someone your plans.
- Carry a fully charged communication device.
