Yavapai College Baccalaureate Nursing Program Receives Accreditation

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has granted initial accreditation to Yavapai College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. The ACEN notified Yavapai College of its decision on September 25.

The accreditation follows intensive review and inspection of Yavapai College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, including a three-day site visit conducted in March. Accreditation is retroactive to November 2023, and applies to all RN-BSN cohorts, including those already graduated.

“This achievement means more than a new credential—it means greater opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Lisa Rhine, President of Yavapai College. “It means empowering registered nurses in our region to advance their education, expand their knowledge, and elevate their impact on patient care. Most importantly, it means strengthening the very foundation of healthcare in our communities.”

Announced in the Fall of 2023, Yavapai College commenced instruction for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (RN-BSN) in January 2024. The program was designed to provide rigorous yet affordable instruction for aspiring nurses and healthcare professionals, allowing them to earn their RN while remaining in the community. To date, the College has awarded 37 Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees.

“This milestone is not only a tremendous achievement for our institution but also a powerful step forward for nursing education and for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Marylou Mercado, Vice President of Workforce Development and Health Sciences & Public Services at Yavapai College.

Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) supports the interests of nursing education, nursing practice, and the public. It reviews and accredits nursing programs throughout the United States, its territories, and internationally. The Baccalaureate Nursing Program’s next accreditation review is scheduled for Spring 2030.

Yavapai College operates seven campuses and centers throughout Yavapai County and offers over one hundred degrees and certificates, four baccalaureate degrees, student and community services, and cultural events and activities.
