Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Traffic Collision – Investigation Ongoing

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at approximately 8:58 p.m., Chino Valley Police Department officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the 700 block of South State Route 89 for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle.

A Chino Valley Police officer arrived on scene within one minute of the initial call and immediately rendered aid to the injured bicyclist until EMS arrived. The bicyclist was subsequently airlifted to a valley hospital with injuries described as serious and potentially life-threatening.

The individual, who was initially unidentified due to lack of identification and unconsciousness, was later confirmed to be a 17-year-old resident of Chino Valley.

The driver of the vehicle, a Prescott Valley resident, remained on scene and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist was riding southbound in a poorly lit section of State Route 89, wearing dark clothing and lacking legally required safety equipment. The bicyclist was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling in the same direction and was thrown from the bicycle.

At this time, no charges have been filed. Alcohol or drug impairment do not appear to be a factor. The incident remains actively under investigation by the Chino Valley Police Department.

The Chino Valley Police Department reminds all motorists to remain alert—especially in low-light conditions—and urges bicyclists to follow all applicable safety laws, including the use of helmets, lights, and reflective gear.
