The Prescott Police Department is warning the community about a scam that has been circulating in our area.
Scammers are sending emails that appear to come from local churches and pastors, using names of local churches and church leaders to make the messages look legitimate. These emails typically ask for help and request that you purchase gift cards on their behalf. Several churches in the Prescott area have been impersonated as part of this scheme.
REMEMBER:
- No legitimate church or pastor will ask you to buy gift cards over email.
- Always verify requests by contacting the church directly through a trusted phone number or official website.
- Any transaction asking for gift card payment is a red flag for fraud.
We ask our community to please stay vigilant and cautious. These scams can be very convincing—take a moment to double-check before responding to unusual or urgent-sounding requests.
If you believe you’ve been targeted or fallen victim to a scam, please contact the Prescott Police Department at (928) 445-3131.
