Free Prostate Cancer Screening at Prescott Farmers Market on March 8, 2025

The Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) announces a Free Prostate Cancer Screening Event in cooperation with community partners at Arizona Complete Health and Prostate On-Site Project. This event will take place on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 from 9:30am – 12:30pm (Mobile Unit on-site times are subject to change based on scheduled appointments) at the Prescott Farmers Market on 900 Iron Springs Road, Prescott, AZ 86305. Appointments must be scheduled in advance on or before March 3, 2025, by calling 1-800-838-6139 (toll free) or 480-964-3013. The screening includes a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Blood Draw, a DRE (Digital Rectal Exam), a Testicular Exam, and a Consultation with a Urologist. Prostate cancer is the second-most diagnosed cancer in American men and the second leading cause of cancer death. Getting annual exams including PSA and DRE is an important proactive measure in prostate cancer prevention.

Prostate cancer often develops without symptoms. The lifetime probability of developing prostate cancer is 1 in 7 men. The 5-year survival rate for patients whose cancer is caught while still confined to the prostate is 100%, while the 5-year survival rate for those men diagnosed with advanced cancer is only 34%. Prostate cancer is twice as common and has more than twice the mortality rate in African-American men as it has in Caucasian men.

Steps for Prostate Cancer Prevention:

  • All men aged 40 and older should consider having an annual Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) and a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test.
  • Those with risk factors should get these exams annually starting at age 37.
  • Tracking the PSA numerical result annually is important. The value of PSA testing is the rate of change from one year to the next. Staying informed about one’s PSA levels by getting regular screenings and understanding the implications of changes over time can make a significant difference in early detection and treatment outcomes.

As a vital part of the economy, the mission of Prescott Farmers Market is to support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local food. The market is open year round on Saturdays. PFM is a nonprofit organization and a Qualifying Charitable Tax Credit Organization with the State of Arizona.
