The Prescott Badgers opened up with a 10-0 win over the Boulder Creek Jaguars in the very first flag football game in Prescott High School history.

It was a night of firsts as the Badgers got their feet wet and shutout their opponent from Anthem. Prescott coach Ryan Hart said, “It was a lot of excitement out here. This was a great way to start our season off against a wonderful opponent like Boulder Creek, that gave us a great challenge. I thought our team played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We were able to get that touchdown in the first half and add the field goal. The defense did the rest. Proud of our team and looking forward to taking on Kingman.”

The first quarter saw both exchange possessions with nothing to show for it on the scoreboards. Lightning struck in the second quarter when Prescott scored on a big run by quarterback Rianna Aguilar, who went outside and scampered 48 yards for the first ever touchdown. Delaney Courtney added the first ever extra point and the Badgers led 7-0 with ten minutes left in the second quarter.

Aguilar said, “We were all so hyped tonight and ready. We worked so hard for the last three-four weeks and since the summer for this. It was fun out there, a little nervous at first, but I was able to rely on my team and we were able to make the plays we needed to get the win.”

Defenses took control again and even though the Jaguars were able to get into Badger territory, the defense would step up and make the plays when needed. The score was 7-0 at the half.

The third quarter the Badgers were able to get a 26 yard field goal from Courtney for a 10-0 lead with 1:52 left in the third quarter.

In the final seconds of the third quarter Daria Young came up with the first interception for Prescott at the Badger 47. Another turnover would add to the highlights of the first game when Addy Brandon came up with the second Badgers interception of the night at the Boulder Creek 46 with 2:33 remaining.

The Jaguars were able to get the ball one final time, but a fourth down pass with :20 left feel incomplete to secure the win and the shutout.

Mallory Walsh said, “It was amazing. We were all a little nervous in the locker room, but once we got out here and started playing we were fine.” Olivia Raber said, “There is a lot of school spirit here, and all the people who came out and cheered for our team, really made a difference. We put in a lot of work to get prepared for this game and getting the win made it all worthwhile.” Walsh added, “We were kind of wondering how many people would show up to see us play and with this kind of turnout tonight that just made us feel good. I am really glad we were able to win tonight.”

The Badgers (1-0) will play their first road game tonight at Kingman at 6 pm. The Bulldogs are (0-1) after falling to Heritage Academy Laveen 48-0.
