Verde Valley Precinct Constable Jody J. Fanning notified the Board of Supervisors of his upcoming retirement in a letter received on July 28, 2024. The Board of Supervisors accepted the Constable’s resignation at their regular Board of Supervisors meeting on August 7, 2024. Constable Fanning had been in this position since 2016.
Constables are elected peace officers who attend the courts of justices of the peace within their precincts when required; and within their counties execute, serve and return all processes, warrants and notices directed or delivered to them by a justice of the peace of the county or by competent authority.
The Yavapai County Constable for the Verde Valley Precinct covers the incorporated communities of Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Jerome and the western half of Sedona. As well as the unincorporated Communities: Cornville, Lake Montezuma, McGuireville, Page Springs, Rim Rock, Verde Villages, and the Village of Oak Creek.
The Verde Valley Precinct covers nearly 1,200 square miles and serves over 70,000 people.
The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors are soliciting Letters of Interest and Resumes for appointment to the position of Verde Valley Precinct Constable effective August 19, 2024, to complete the remaining term of office, which ends on December 31, 2026. Those qualified to serve as Constable must at the time of appointment be 18 years of age or older; a resident of Yavapai County; registered to vote in Yavapai County; and able to read and write the English language.
In addition, according to A.R.S. §16-230, the Board of Supervisors shall appoint a person of the same political party as the person vacating the office to fill the portion of the term until the next regular general election. The serving Constable was elected as a member of the Republican Party.

Letters of Interest and Resumes must be received by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by 5:00 P.M., on Friday, August 30, 2024.
The Board of Supervisors will consider the Letters of Interest and Resumes and may appoint a replacement for the Verde Valley Precinct Constable at their regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meeting at 9:00 A.M. on September 18, 2024.
