Experience the heart and soul of Prescott’s art community at the 4th Friday Art Walk, an event that transforms the historic downtown Courthouse plaza into a vibrant hub of artistic exploration. Every fourth Friday of the month, over 16 galleries extend their hours and open their doors to celebrate the arts. The upcoming event on June 28 will feature the rich tapestry of local and national art, with the exhibit “Southwest Surrealism / Surreal Southwest” at Yavapai College Art Gallery taking center stage.

The June 2024 featured gallery exhibit will be held at Yavapai College Art Gallery (1100 East Sheldon Street, Building 16). “Southwest Surrealism / Surreal Southwest,” curated by Amy Ernst, granddaughter of surrealist icon Max Ernst, showcases a compelling mix of local and national artists. The exhibit includes original lithographs by Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning, alongside innovative works by local artists such as Dale O’Dell, Rick Fredrick, Thatcher Bohrman, Jill Crowley, and John McDonald, as well as pieces by prominent artists from the Sedona and Phoenix areas.

Highlighting the exhibition are rare historical artifacts and photographs that delve into the surrealistic legacy within the region, including a notable photograph of Max Ernst taken by surrealist photographer Frederick Sommer.

The evening begins at 5:00 PM, and the galleries, including Yavapai College Art Gallery, will extend their hours until 7:00 PM, allowing ample time for visitors to explore and enjoy the diverse artworks.
