The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Seeking Volunteers for Community Smoke Alarm Walk

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) has partnered with the Arizona Burn Foundation and the Red Cross of Arizona to hold a Community Smoke Alarm Walk in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on May 11, 2024. These collaborative efforts aim to enhance community safety by providing free installation of smoke alarms in high- risk areas.

CAFMA is seeking volunteers to assist in making the event a success.

“We want community members to know that tools and training will be provided, and it is a fantastic event for families, friend groups, and anyone looking for volunteer hours.” said Kathy Goodman, CAFMA Community Relations Coordinator, “There is no experience necessary, and breakfast will be provided. Join CAFMA in making a significant difference in promoting fire prevention and safeguarding lives within our community.”

CAFMA Fire Marshal Darrell Tirpak emphasized the significance of functioning smoke alarms in homes, especially as modern fires burn hotter and faster than before. Regular testing and maintenance of smoke alarms are crucial in ensuring community safety.

“We installed 85 smoke alarms in 23 homes during our last Community Smoke Alarm Walk, and many more were educated in fire safety. We could reach far more community members with additional volunteers. Please consider volunteering on Saturday, May 11,” added Fire Marshal Tirpak.

Interested volunteers can sign-up through the Arizona Burn Foundation’s website: https://azburn.org/advocacy-and-education/community-smoke-alarm/.
