The Folk Legacy Trio Rekindles the Poetry of the Great Folk Era – Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center

What have you been doing since 1971? Hemming your bell bottoms? Rebuilding your Volkswagen bus? The Folk Legacy Trio has been performing the music they love at the highest levels of national and international stages. Featuring two Kingston Trio veterans and the former lead singer of The Diamonds, The Folk Legacy Trio will deliver the greatest songs of the Folk Era at Yavapai College’s Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 26 at 7 p.m.

The Folk Legacy Trio has been hailed as “the living library” of folk music from the ‘50s-‘70s, performing with their signature dynamic vocals and instrumental arrangements. Audiences enjoy their expertly blended harmonies and guitar playing while listening to some of the most beloved songs ever written, from The Weavers to Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkel, Gordon Lightfoot, and beyond.

The trio’s gifted and congenial musicians have been involved with the music of the great Folk Era since its very beginning. Jerry Siggins got his start with the famous Dapper Dans barbershop quartet at Disneyland parks in California, Florida, and Japan. He then sang with a Celtic band for a decade before joining legendary doo-woppers, The Diamonds, the ground-breaking group that recorded “Little Darlin’” and the American Bandstand favorite, “The Stroll.” Rick Dougherty has written dozens of songs, arranged for vocal groups, and even directed opera (only under duress, he says). He hit the international stages first as Glenn Yarbrough’s replacement in The Limeliters for fourteen years, and later added his ringing tenor voice to The Kingston Trio for twelve years. George Grove went from being a background picker at The Grand Ole Opry almost directly into a forty-one-year career as banjoist extraordinaire with The Kingston Trio.

Along the way, all three gentlemen have shared stages with the best-known names of the folk era: Peter, Paul & Mary, Tom Paxton, Judy Collins, Barry MacGuire, The New Christy Minstrels, The Brothers Four, The Chad Mitchell Trio, The Mamas & The Papas, The Association, John Sebastian, Josh White, Jr., Glenn Yarbrough, and Pete Seeger. These are the friends, experiences, and memories The Folk Legacy Trio bring to life within the memorable and exciting music of the Great American Folksong Book.

Tickets for The Folk Legacy Trio start at $39. The Jim & Linda Lee Performing Arts Center Ticket Office is located on Yavapai College’s Prescott Campus, 1100 E. Sheldon Street, and open from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and one hour prior to performances.
