A Classical Christmas Awaits with a Grand “Handel’s Messiah”

Performances at the Jim & Linda Lee PAC Dec 2 & 3 and in Cottonwood Dec 1

The joy of the season rings brightly when Yavapai College’s choral union, special guest soloists, and a live orchestra come together for a fresh performance of “Handel’s Messiahthe timeless, inspirational holiday classic considered the composer’s greatest oratorio celebration.  Due to the overwhelming popularity of this bi-annual event, Yavapai College’s Performing Arts Department is offering two performances at the JLLPAC this season, Saturday, December 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 3 at 3 p.m., as well as a 7 p.m. performance on Friday, December 1 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cottonwood.

The concerts are conducted by Yavapai College’s new Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music, Chad Pittman: “The opportunity to spend time studying, discussing, rehearsing, and discovering this G.F. Handel masterpiece is truly humbling…and simply amazing. It is no surprise that musicians return to The Messiah year after year, referring to the work as a part of their very DNA, while audiences jump at the chance to experience it again and again: Handel’s genius lies in evoking such innovative and believable emotion/drama into each phrase. Revolutionary in his day, his work – and specifically this great oratorio – pushed the limits of common performance practice, and captivated enthusiasts everywhere. I hope that our audiences leave having listened to something that soothes and entertains the mind, but also deeply enriches and nourishes the soul, inspiring inner peace, and a call for transformative joy and love in the world.” Guest soloists for Yavapai College’s 2023 production include several up-and-coming opera stars, including Cadie J. Bryan (soprano) and Jonathan Bryan (baritone), returning from their 2021 Prescott debut; mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Sarian; and tenor Paul Nicosia.
