Structure Fire on South Montezuma in Prescott

At 10:45 pm on the evening of October 11th, Prescott Fire Department and CAFMA crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 514 S. Montezuma St. that was reported by a citizen driving by. The first arriving Engine company found smoke coming from the roof and front of the structure of a multi-occupancy business complex with a walkout residence below. Second engine worked on evacuation of residence in rear of structure on bottom floor.  Crews were able to force entry through the front door and get a quick knockdown on the fire.  Crews were able to enter the structure and fully extinguish the fire and check for further extension once additional resources arrived on scene. Businesses located on either side of the fire were not affected, and the residential occupants were able to return, no injuries were reported by occupants or fire personnel. Fire investigators were called in to determine cause of the fire, crews were on scene approximately 3 hours.

Recognition by the citizen of smoke coming from the building, and early activation of 911 helped to keep this fire contained to the business of origin.
