Scammers Posing as Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office are Extorting Money from Residents

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has been informed by numerous people that there is a scammer who is calling residences from a phone that will identify as coming from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, and using the name of an actual deputy in our agency, to attempt to extort money.

If you hang up and call back, their voicemail also identifies as a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office – but it is not.

The scammers are using a variety of techniques, but most frequently it is telling a person they have missed a court date and saying they need to pay a fine, and they are quite adamant and pushy.

PLEASE BE AWARE that the sheriff’s office will never call you asking for money under any circumstances.

Also, any company that asks you to pay them in bitcoin or gift cards should automatically be suspect to you, so please be cautious when giving out your personal information to anyone on the telephone.

If you have been a victim of this scam or have been contacted by these scammers, please call the 928-771-3260 to report.
