400+ Acres and More Than 50 Fires This Year – Now is the Time to Prepare

A local emergency, like a fire or flood, can force you to evacuate or shelter in place with very little time to prepare. Do you have a plan for what to do if basic services, such as water, gas, electricity, or telephones stop working? Do you have a go-bag ready for you and everyone in your family, including your pets?

While the moisture from recent winter storms has delayed the start of wildfire season, the danger is still high for Yavapai County residents. The many fires that have plagued our County, just in the past few months, have been prevented from turning into large-scale incidents because of the heroic efforts and rapid response of local fire agencies. Not only are wildfires a real threat to everyone, Monsoon Season, and the lighting started fires that go with these storms, began on June 15th. Staying aware of current threats and preparing now is your family’s best defense.

If you have lived in in Arizona for any time at all you have heard of Ready, Set, Go! If you are not familiar with what this means – Ready, Set, Go is a nationwide program, adopted by 15 Arizona Sheriffs, to educate residents about proactive measures to take before an emergency and actions to follow when communities are threatened.

The program’s three tenets encourage Arizonans to get READY by preparing for what threatens their community, be SET by maintaining awareness of significant danger, and when ordered to GO, evacuate immediately.

For more details and specifics on what being READY means, how you can be SET for any emergency, and where to GO when ordered to evacuate, visit: www.yavapaiaz.gov/publicworks/emergency-management
