At about 3:15 PM on June 19th, 2023, Prescott Regional Communications Center received a 911 call for a vehicle fire in the Lynx Lake campground that had spread into the forest. Initial reports stated that the wildland fire was approximately the size of a football field. Responding fire units reported visible smoke from Highway 69 and Walker Road.
The first arriving fire unit quickly extinguished the vehicle fire, while the subsequent arriving units focused their suppression efforts on the wildland component. After approximately two hours, the fire spread was contained to roughly 1.5 acres. Several resources from the Prescott Fire Department, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, United States Forest Service (USFS), Walker Fire Department, and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department responded. The quick extinguishment and containment would not have been possible without the coordinated efforts from all the agencies involved.
The scene was ultimately turned over to the USFS, who will continue to monitor the burned area over the next several hours. It is unclear what caused the vehicle to catch fire; the incident is still under investigation.
